The crisis of homelessness in California is sobering. One out of every 332 people in the state is homeless. California is home to 21.5 percent of homeless people in the United States.

Thankfully, there are proven programs to help remedy this problem. Gateway Cities COG is leading an effort to address homelessness within our region — working in concert with businesses, faith groups, law enforcement, city officials, service providers and other stakeholders.

The aim is to work together and give communities the tools they need address the problem. From preventing evictions to leveraging resources such as housing subsidies and move-in assistance funds, there are proactive actions that can be taken.

Some programs geared towards stabilizing homeless individuals have success rates as high as 80 percent.
