Improving transportation for people and businesses

Long-term transportation planning is a challenge. It aims to make the movement of goods and people more efficient. Yet, to be truly effective, it must balance efficiency with factors that improve resident quality of life.
Caltrans is investing $1.3 billion over the next 5 years to improve northern segments along the Golden State Freeway (I-5) between the Ventura Freeway (SR-134) and the Kern County line. These improvements include a truck lane to ensure goods move faster, which helps businesses and the economy.
Carpool lanes and improvements to on and off-ramps are part of the planned upgrades too. Improved traffic flow and reduced congestion makes highways safer and improves air quality. It also means people get to their destinations faster, which makes everyone a little happier.
