“For the past three years, my father and I have been working exclusively at Long Beach Harbor, running loads in a 1979 Western Star and a 1983 GMC. At first we didn’t believe this program was for real, but we decided to check it out because we had nothing to lose. “Thanks to the Clean Air Program, we were able to buy a 1998 Peterbilt and a 1998 Kenworth. Since we got our trucks, we feel like working longer hours, which means it easier for us to make more money, and I still have enough energy left over to go home and play with my daughter. We also used to be worried about getting stopped for equipment violations, and that would cost us money every time. Now we don’t mind being stopped at all. And, with our newer trucks, we get better mileage, so we don’t use as much diesel as we did before, and that saves us money. None of the other truck owners believed us when we first told them we were getting newer trucks. Now, they all ask us how they can do it, too.”
